Simon has been riding since a teenager and has competed locally at riding-club level. In any precious spare time, Simon even finds time to spend with his seven horses. His main horse is the home-bred Hannovarian x Dutch mare, Bodi, which he exercises several times a week.

Simon gained his certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in January 2011.

Alex qualified from Liverpool University in 2009, and joined the practice soon after.  Fortunately he was already somewhat familiar with the team, the area and some of the clients having seen practice with us while he was a student.  Alex’s main interests are anything medical, for example, weight loss, diarrhoea, breathing issues and coughing.  Now we have invested in a new scanner, then ultrasound of the abdomen, thorax and heart is possible, so he is keen to take advantage.  He also has a passion for eyes, and is liable to sneak a crafty peek in your horse’s eyes regardless of why he is really there!  Outside of work Alex is a keen sportsman, by which he means he likes to sit on the sofa and watch sport.  Occasionally he will even play that most energetic of sports, cricket.  Alex is also responsible for much of this website, so throw your criticism his way!

You can contact Alex via the office on 01942 886174, or e-mail him at alex@equine-vets.com.

Rachael Frew BVM&S MRCVS

Rachael

Rachael

Rachael joined the practice in December 2009, soon after qualifying from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary School in Edinburgh.  Originally from Northern Ireland, Rachael grew up on a busy beef farm.  She always enjoyed calving on the farm, and now she is qualified and working in equine practice has used this experience in dealing with foaling.

Tom Ferreday BVM&S MRCVS

Tom

Tom

Tom graduated from University of Edinburgh in 2006, before spending 3 months in the US of A working with an equine veterinarian (as they call us over there!).  Following a 3 year spell in mixed practice in Essex, Tom decided that not only did he want to move back up north, but also wanted to concentrate on equine work.  We welcomed him to the practice at the start of 2010.
